چکیده

In this paper, we propose a novel method to estimate the slant of omni-directional image sensors which can acquire images of an environment with a FOV close to 360◦×180◦. The proposed method consists of two steps: a low resolution voting followed by a least squares method (LSM). First, the direction of each edge pixel in the omni-directional image is computed and projected to the plane of Z = 1. The biggest peak formed by the vertical edges, which are prevalent in indoor and urban scenes, is detected. Then, edge directions whose projections to the voting plane pass near the peak are used to estimate the slant of the sensor by LSM. Experimental results in a real environment show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Using Symmetry as a Feature in Panoramic Images for Mobile Robot Applications

We propose to use symmetry as a global feature for mobile robot applications in an indoor environment. Our mobile robot solely uses an omnidirectional vision sensor consisting of a digital colour video camera and a hyperbolic mirror. Thus, robust image feature extraction is required for good performance in each application. The detection of symmetry is an effective natural vision routine result...

Reduced egomotion estimation drift using omnidirectional views

Estimation of camera motion from a given image sequence is a common task for multi-view 3D computer vision applications. Salient features (lines, corners etc.) in the images are used to estimate the motion of the camera, also called egomotion. This estimation suffers from an error built-up as the length of the image sequence increases and this causes a drift in the estimated position. In this l...

Fuzzy edge detection for omnidirectional images

The use of omnidirectional vision has increased during these past years. It provides a very large field of view. Nevertheless, omnidirectional images contain significant radial distortions and conventional image processing is not adapted to these specific images. This paper presents an edge detector adapted to the image geometry. Fuzzy sets will be used to take into account all imprecisions int...

Range Estimation from a Pair of Omnidirectional Images

In this paper we address the problem of recovering range information from a pair of images obtained from camera viewpoints whose relative poses are known (stereo vision) . The images we deal with are cylindrical re-projections of images captured by an omnidirectional vision sensor. Images obtained by such a device have a relatively low spatial resolution in comparison to standard camera images....
